Self driving this diverse destination allows you to spend time exploring the things you want to see and do.  Go off the beaten track to experience little seen places where you can be at one with nature’s paradise.  Spend time at a rainforest stream, watching for platypus, walk with the endangered Southern Cassowaries in the stunning palm forests of Mission Beach, or drop your line at Palm Cove jetty.

Road conditions are good across Tropical North Queensland year round; however, it is advisable to check conditions during summer (December to March) when seasonal flooding can affect access to several areas including Cairns to Mission Beach, the Outback and Cape Tribulation.  Please note: 4WD are recommended if you are driving from Cairns to Cooktown.
